Women in the Waves is an all
girls surf club situated on the scenic Central Coast of
NSW. The club has been running for 21 years,
catering for all levels and ages from whitewash, B grade,
malibus and A grade shortboard riders.
The club now has a wide age
range from 7 to 63, with nearly 100 members.
The original club operates in the southern part of the
region at Avoca Beach on the first Sunday morning each
month from February to November (inclusive), with
occasional surfs at Terrigal, Umina and other
beaches. Social events including BBQs, DVD nights
and trips away to contests or the snow are part of the
club's regular activities.
The northern part of the region
is served by Central Coast Girls Boardriders who meet on
the second Sunday of every month and meet at Soldiers
Beach.
These two clubs have been a
production line for some notable surfers like Rebecca
Woods, past World Junior Champion who is now in the top
half a dozen surfers on the World Championship Tour, Amee
Donohoe, former WQS Rookie of the Year in 2000 and
another WCT surfer, and Sandra English, 8 times
Australian Champion and former World Masters Champion,
along with lots of other rippers.
